About the Book

From Baker to Banker

From Baker to Banker is my personal account of a life that began in my family’s bakery in Germany and later led me into the international world of banking. Tennis opened the door to my first banking opportunity, and from there, my career took me across Europe, the United States, Asia, the Middle East, South America, and many other parts of the world.

In this memoir, I share the experiences that influenced my life, including my childhood during World War II, my early years as a baker, my work at Citibank, my contributions to foreign exchange and risk management, and my years of teaching and consulting. I also write about my family, friendships, charitable work, and the Holy Spirit that guided many of my decisions.

This book is not only about professional success. I speak honestly about mistakes, missed opportunities, and the difficulty of balancing work with family life. I wrote these memories for my children, grandchildren, friends, and everyone who has been part of my journey. Above all, I hope my story shows what determination, hard work, confidence, and the willingness to learn can make possible.
